During the summer of 2002, HJTM teamed up with Michelle Medeiros and Earl’s
Garage to teach the physics of photography to students in North Hawaii.
We taught classes in Waimea, Honokaa, Kohala, and Paauilo. Sixty photography
enthusiasts, grades 6th-8th, participated in the program.
The students made cameras out of shoeboxes, took photographs with them and
developed the photographs in a darkroom. They also took photographs with digital
cameras. Then they created web pages to display their photographs and to write
about what they learned in the program.
