During the summer of 2004, HJTM teamed up with Michelle Medeiros and Earl’s
Garage to offer video game design classes to students in North Hawaii.
We taught classes in Waimea, Honokaa, Waikoloa, Kohala, and Paauilo. Thirty
four video game and graphics enthusiasts, grades 5th-12th, participated in
the program.
The students used Flash to create their games. Michelle and I downloaded a
spaceship game tutorial off the internet and used it for the class. Students
drew their graphics and, using Action Script, programmed them to move and interact
with each other. For example, the arrow keys on the keyboard control the spaceship
and the control key fires a laser from the spaceship.
I'd like to give a high-five and a complex handshake to David
Doull, who created the tutorials and posted them on Flash
Kit. Here are the links to the tutorials we used: Tutorial
One, Tutorial
Two, Tutorial
Three.

to fire the lasers.
