Herbs and Botanicals

Algy’s Herb Page (http://www.ibiblio.org/london/herbs/forums/herbal/msg00025.html) provides most of its information by linking to other sites and offers one-stop shopping for people interested in herbs for cooking and medicinal purposes. Learn to grow and prepare your own herbs for recipes and remedies, and browse the site’s library.

Flower Essence Society (http://www.flowersociety.org) was founded in 1979 to promote plant research and empirical clinical research on the therapeutic effects of flower essences.

Herb Growing & Network (http://www.herbnet.com/ ) provides information on herbs, herb products, herb remedies and herb publications.

Herb Research Foundation (http://www.herbs.org/) is a nonprofit research and educational organization focusing on herbs and medicinal plants.

American Herbalists Guild (http://www.americanherbalistsguild.com/), founded in 1989 as a non-profit, educational organization to represent the goals and voices of herbalists, is the only peer-review organization for professional herbalists specializing in the medicinal use of plants.

Herbalgram Magazine (http://www.herbalgram.org/) provides information about herbs that has been compiled from a number of reputable scientific sources including the German Commission E Monographs, Botanical Safety Handbook, and numerous clinical trials that have been referenced in HerbalGram.

Botanical.com (http://www.botanical.com), a hyper-text version of A Modern Herbal, 1931, by Mrs. M. Grieve, lists over 800 varieties of medicinal, culinary, and cosmetic herbs, including economic properties, cultivation and folk-lore.

Herbal Hall (http://www.herb.com/herbal.htm) offers a wide range of services for those interested in herbs and their usage.  There are references, books, a virtual herb walking tour and a chat line.  A conference or special event is featured weekly and a site offering information on herbs or alternative medicine is the focus of “link of the month.”
