Complete Guide to Homeopathy
Lockie, Andrew
From Library Journal With homeopathic remedies now commonly found in drugstores and even in supermarkets, there is a growing interest in this form of alternative medicine. Lockie and Geddes, coauthors of The Women's Guide to Homeopathy (LJ 12/93), have written one of the most physically attractive books on the subject. The photographs and illustrations of the remedies are stunning. What also sets this book apart from others on the subject is a "consititutional type questionnaire," which homeopaths use when they prescribe remedies. Also included is information on the history and philosophy of homeopathy, photographs of nearly 150 remedies arranged by their Latin names, and an explanation of how to treat common ailments. Recommended for its illustrations, even for libraries that have other books on this subject.?Natalie Kupferberg, Ferris State Univ., Big Rapids, Mich. Copyright 1995 Reed Business Information, Inc. From Book News, Inc. DK produces attractive, well-organized volumes, including this, which supplements the text with lots of photos and reproductions of historical illustrations and engravings, illustrated side-boxes devoted to various complaints, history, and early homeopaths, and captions describing the remedies depicted. The volume includes a history of the discipline, a section for readers to assess their health, an index of remedies, remedies for common ailments, a guide to nutrition, and a list of resources.... read more --This text refers to the Hardcover edition. Book Description A comprehensive range of self-help remedies. Authoritative and accessible, this fully revised and updated consumer's guide to homeopathy explains all about how homeopathy works-and the best way to make it work for you. Complete Guide to Homeopathy reveals the key principles of homeopathy, including the system of categorizing people by "constitutional" types according to their physical and emotional traits. Other useful features include personal assessment, remedy profiles, and self-help guidelines. A carefully structured self-assessment questionnaire is based on what a homeopath would ask at a first consultation. It provides a unique insight into the link between health and personality, and helps you determine the constitutional type you resemble most. Based on the most advanced research, a photographic index profiles 150 remedies, with details of the historical background, medicinal uses, and corresponding constitutional type of each. Easy-to-use Practical Ailment Charts advise which remedies to take for everyday health problems, such as insomnia, anxiety, eczema, and toothache. It also features a quick-reference guide to homeopathic first aid. Accessible and information-packed, the Complete Guide to Homeopathy is the essential reference for improving health through this gentle approach to healing. --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

Homeopathy Beyond Flat Earth Medicine
Dooley, Timothy R.
Miranda Castro, FS Hom, Mothering Magazine, Summer 1997 Homeopathy: Beyond Flat Earth Medicine by Timothy R. Dooley, is a gem of a book. Dooley's writing style is informal, conversational, and easy to read. Amazingly, it is mostly jargon-free with the history and philosophy woven throughout in colorful threads rather than delivered in dry, dusty chunks. The explanations are succinct and beautifully digestible. Dooley answers every question I have ever been asked about homeopathy--and many more--while describing virtually every aspect of homeopathic treatment. The chapters are sprinkled with memorable stories, anecdotes, and case histories that are invariably vivid, interesting, humourous, or entertaining--sometimes all at once. This book reminds me of my favorite teacher, who entertained and instructed in equal measure. Book Description This easy-to-read book is the best all-round introduction to homeopathy available. Dr. Dooley intersperses stories from his twenty years of training and experience as he explains what homeopathy is, how it differs, when to use it, what to expect, how to get results, and what is needed for success in treatment. Highly recommended by homeopathic practitioners.
